At its core, our mission is to empower individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. Born out of the firs to stop the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, STAND is devoted to creating a sustainable student organization that actively fights genocide. We seek to unite students around the world in a permanent anti-genocide constituency.
To do so, STAND provides students with organizing materials, information, online resources, policy expertise and a network of concerned and active peers. STAND aims to enable students to prevent and stop genocide wherever it may occur.

Many educators are teaching their students about the current crisis in Darfur and the concept of crimes against humanity, with a focus on genocide.
